LEICESTER — A Leicester man was injured in a collision early Thursday morning when he was struck by a pickup truck while walking along Lake Dunmore Road.

At around 5:45 a.m., state troopers responded to the incident near the intersection of Lake Dunmore Road and Fernville Road.

Timothy Lester, 54, of Leicester, was walking on the side of the northbound lane when a group of loose dogs entered the roadway, causing the southbound vehicle, a 2019 RAM 1500 driven by Benjamin Kandzior, 43, also of Leicester, to swerve to avoid hitting the animals.

Kandzior’s vehicle crossed into the opposing lane and hit Lester.

Lester, who suffered a suspected head injury, was airlifted to UVM Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities noted that the lack of reflective clothing on Lester, combined with the dark, cloudy conditions, contributed to the accident.

Kandzior, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was not injured and his vehicle sustained only minor front-end damage.

No charges have been filed against Kandzior, as he was not found to be in violation of any laws.

The presence of the loose dogs has been reported to the local authorities.

The Leicester Fire Department and Middlebury Regional EMS provided assistance at the scene.
