WATERBURY — A hit-and-run collision at the intersection of the Interstate 89 South exit 10 ramp and VT Route 100 has prompted an investigation by Vermont State Police.

The incident occurred at 12:26 a.m. when David Abesa, 20, of Colchester, was entering the intersection on a green light.

An unidentified driver in a white 2014 Ford Focus allegedly ran the red light, striking the front of Abesa’s 2004 Saturn L300, causing significant damage.

The driver of the Ford Focus fled the scene immediately after the crash.

Abesa, whose vehicle sustained damage, was unable to confirm if he was wearing his seatbelt, but reported no injuries.

The identity of the Ford’s operator remains unknown, and charges are pending as the investigation continues.

Vermont State Police have not yet been able to determine the identity of the driver at the time of the crash, despite Abesa providing the vehicle’s registration plate number.

Photos of the Ford Focus have been released, with authorities seeking the public’s assistance.

State Police urge anyone with information related to the crash to contact Trooper Lambert at the Berlin Barracks at (802) 229-9191.
