WESTPORT — A person who absconded from St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health was safely located and returned to the facility Monday afternoon, prompting a swift response from Westport Police Department.
At about 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 9, police were notified that the individual, who has a history of behavioral health issues and domestic violence arrests, had left the premises at 47 Long Lots Road.
Considering the time coincided with school dismissal hours, law enforcement issued a Nixel alert and established a perimeter in the area.
The Westport Police drone team was deployed, and a K-9 unit was requested to assist in the search.
The individual, currently on probation and wearing a mobile tracking bracelet, was tracked to the vicinity of Compo Road South.
An off-duty officer located and detained the subject without incident around 3:35 p.m. The person was then escorted back to St. Vincent’s Behavioral Health.
Westport Police will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
