Groton disturbance leads to arrest, multiple officers injured

GROTON — Multiple officers were injured during an arrest on North Road Sunday evening after the Groton Police Department responded to a disturbance call involving a man who had been acting erratically and was reported to have assaulted a female.

At around 7:42 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center received several 911 calls from a residence with the male caller, later identified as 41-year-old Micah D.

Johnson of Groton, disconnecting and background yelling heard.

Officers arrived to find Johnson unarmed but attempting to stop cars in traffic.

Despite initial de-escalation efforts, Johnson tensed up when informed of his arrest for domestic violence-related charges, leading to a physical altercation with police.

Three officers sustained injuries in the struggle, with one requiring treatment at Pequot Health Center’s Emergency Room and two others suffering significant abrasions.

Johnson was charged with disorderly conduct, assault on a police officer, and interfering with an officer.

Released on a $10,000 non-surety bond, he was arraigned the following day.
