BOSTON — Boston Police Department officers arrested an 18-year-old Dorchester resident on firearm charges late Tuesday night after responding to a shot spotter activation in the neighborhood.

At about 10:18 p.m., officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) took Octavio Nares-Green into custody following a brief pursuit that ended near 14 West Tremlett Street.

The incident began when officers were dispatched to the area of 53 Mather Street where the shot spotter system had detected gunfire.

Boston Police Operations provided a description of two male suspects seen running from the scene towards Washington Street.

Arriving officers spotted two individuals matching the description crossing Washington Street from Melville Avenue.

When police approached, the suspects fled on foot, clutching their waistbands and eventually jumping a fence, temporarily eluding the officers.

During their search along the suspects’ escape route, officers discovered a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun dropped where the suspects had jumped the fence.

The recovered firearm had one round in the chamber and five rounds in a magazine, with the capacity to hold sixteen rounds.

With the suspects’ descriptions broadcasted, officers continued their search and subsequently located Nares-Green, while the second suspect managed to evade capture.

Nares-Green faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Trespassing.

He is scheduled for arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
