Branford man charged after attempting to run down woman, leading police on chase

BRANFORD — A domestic dispute escalated into a dangerous pursuit on Sept. 9 when a man allegedly attempted to run down a woman with his vehicle, leading to multiple charges against him after a confrontation with police.

Branford Police Department officers responded to a call at 1:20 p.m. at 115 South Montowese Street, where a male, later identified as Jonathan Vega, 25, of New Haven, was reportedly trying to hit a female in the parking lot.

According to authorities, Vega fled the scene at a high rate of speed upon the officers’ arrival, nearly colliding with two police cruisers.

After a short pursuit and foot chase, Vega was apprehended in the vicinity of 61 Damascus Road.

The female involved in the initial incident was found unharmed by additional officers.

Vega now faces multiple charges including two counts of Breach of Peace, Interfering with an Officer, two counts of Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Engaging Police in Pursuit, Reckless Driving, Misuse of Plates, and Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle.

He was held on a $50,000 bond and transported to New Haven Court for arraignment this morning.
