BEVERLY — A 27-year-old Connecticut man was arrested by the Beverly Police Department’s Drug Control Unit on charges of cocaine trafficking on Sept. 7, following a tip from a concerned citizen.
Raajon M. James of Manchester was apprehended with more than 36 but less than 100 grams of cocaine after police received information about an anticipated drug delivery from Connecticut to an area near Broadway and Rantoul Street in the city.
The tip included a timeline, vehicle description, and physical characteristics of the suspected drug dealer.
Leveraging the detailed description provided, Beverly police identified James as the suspect.
His criminal record indicated a violent history, including a suspended five-year prison sentence in Connecticut related to drug offenses, firearms, and a high-speed chase.
Upon conducting surveillance in the specified area, officers intercepted the suspect vehicle on Broadway.
James, who was the driver and only person in the car, was found to have 2 ounces of cocaine hidden on his person.
He was arrested without incident and now faces serious charges for trafficking cocaine.
