YARMOUTH — An 81-year-old man has been charged in connection to a roadside crash that killed a teenager last month, Yarmouth police said Monday.
Peter Richmond of Yarmouth Port is facing charges of Motor Vehicular Homicide by Negligent Operation after his vehicle slammed into a boat trailer on August 30, resulting in the death of 14-year-old John Hughan of Norwell.
Hughan was assisting his uncle with a disabled boat trailer due to a broken axle when the 2020 Cadillac Escalade driven by Richmond struck the trailer from behind on North Main Street.
The Yarmouth Police Department and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the incident.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward and have also asked the community to hold the affected family, loved ones, and first responders in their thoughts during this difficult time.
