SPRINGFIELD — A traffic violation led to the arrest of a Springfield man for DUI-drug and heroin possession, police said.
Todd Benson, 47, was pulled over by Springfield Police Department officers on Aug. 6 at 1:23 a.m. on River Street for a traffic infraction.
During the stop, officers reported signs of impairment, and Benson was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which further indicated impairment.
Benson was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI-drugs.
A subsequent search revealed that he was in possession of suspected heroin.
Sgt. King of the Windsor County Sheriff’s Department, a Drug Recognition Expert, conducted an evaluation and recommended a blood sample for toxicology testing.
The sample, which Benson provided voluntarily, indicated the presence of an impairing substance.
Following the toxicology report, Benson reported to the Springfield Police Department for processing.
He was issued a criminal citation to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit, on Oct. 29 at 8 a.m.
