Two arrested in separate incidents by Rhode Island State Police

HOPKINTON — On Thursday, Sept. 5, Rhode Island State Police arrested two individuals in separate incidents following motor vehicle stops, leading to charges including obstructing an officer and driving under the influence with a child passenger.

At 8:22 a.m., troopers arrested Earl Stanton, 57, of Hopkinton, Rhode Island, on charges of obstructing an officer in execution of duty, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct-fighting/tumultuous behavior.

The arrest occurred on Route 95 North in the Town of West Greenwich.

Stanton was transported to the Hope Valley Barracks for processing and later to Third District Court for arraignment.

Later that day at 9:50 p.m., Diana Torres, 34, of West Warwick, Rhode Island, was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor with an unknown blood alcohol content on her first offense, driving under the influence with a child passenger under the age of 13 on her first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test on her first offense.

The stop took place on Providence Street in the Town of West Warwick.

Torres was taken to the State Police – Hope Valley Barracks, where she was processed, arraigned by a Justice of the Peace, and released with a notice to appear in Third Division District Court.
