Two arrested, firearms seized after Roxbury police chase

BOSTON — Two young men were arrested and two loaded firearms were recovered following a police pursuit in Roxbury, authorities said Saturday.

Boston Police Department officers assigned to District B-2 arrested Zakiya Pierre, 19, of Everett, and Jaydan Depina, 18, of Cambridge, on firearm-related offenses after a radio call about a person with a gun on Savin Street at about 10:23 p.m. Friday.

Responding to a 911 call, officers were told two males were seen walking toward Blue Hill Avenue with a firearm.

Officers spotted two individuals matching the description provided.

Pierre and Depina fled upon seeing police, leading officers on a chase.

Pierre was caught on Woodcliff Street with a firearm in his sweatshirt pocket.

Depina, seen discarding an object during his flight, was found in a Howard Avenue backyard.

A search revealed a second firearm between a fence and an air conditioning unit on Dove Street.

The recovered firearms were a Rock Island Firearm .45 and a Bersa Thunder 380, both loaded.

Pierre and Depina are facing charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and will be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
