SHAFTSBURY — Vermont State Police responded to a report of suspicious items found in a pull-off area on US Route 7 on May 9 at approximately 5:16 p.m.

The items, initially thought to be a blood-covered blanket and a large knife, aroused concern from a passerby who reported the findings to the authorities.

Troopers arrived at the scene near Mile Marker 18/4 and upon closer inspection, determined that the items were not bloodstained as initially believed.

It appeared that the blanket and knife may have accidentally fallen out of a vehicle.

The Vermont State Police collected the items and brought them to the Shaftsbury Barracks for safekeeping.

Authorities are now seeking to return the items to their rightful owner.

If these items belong to you or someone you know, please contact the Vermont State Police at the Shaftsbury Barracks to arrange for their return.
