SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Officers swiftly responded to a charter school threat at around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, following a report that a student had threatened to carry out a shooting.
School officials alerted law enforcement after a student was seen in a video holding a gun and making threats to shoot up the school.
Police visited the 15-year-old student’s residence.
Despite being home, the student did not have a firearm at the location.
Further investigation led officers to link the student to a recent disturbance involving a firearm and another 15-year-old from a different school.
Gaining consent to search the second student’s home, authorities found the individual present, and a member of the Firearms Investigation Unit discovered the firearm in a bedroom around 11:30 a.m.
The gun, which is believed to be the same one featured in the video, was identified as stolen property from Worcester.
The 15-year-old in possession of the weapon was arrested; however, it was clarified that this individual had not made any school-related threats.
In adherence to legal protections for minors, the names, booking photos, and specific charges of the involved youths are withheld from the public.
