Billerica police warn of phone scam posing as union fundraisers

1 min read

BILLERICA — Local authorities are cautioning residents about a scam involving individuals impersonating fundraisers for the Billerica Police Union.

The Billerica Police Department has recently been alerted to fraudulent activities where scammers, using telephone calls, falsely represent themselves as affiliates of the police union seeking donations.

The department urges the community to be vigilant and verify any such solicitation by contacting the non-emergency police line at (978) 667-1212 before proceeding with any financial transactions.

Residents who receive suspicious calls asking for donations on behalf of the Billerica Police Union are encouraged to report the incident immediately to help prevent further fraudulent attempts and protect others in the community.

The police also remind citizens to never share personal or financial information over the phone without confirmed legitimacy of the request.
