ANSONIA — The Ansonia Police Department clarified today that recent social media posts incorrectly suggested that a weapon possession investigation was connected to Ansonia Middle School.

The incident in question actually took place on the night of Sept. 4 but was not reported until the following day at approximately 1:20 p.m.

According to the police, the event occurred off-school premises and there was no verified threat to any of the Ansonia schools or individuals.

The Ansonia Middle School Administration reported the incident as soon as they were informed by a student, and the police acted promptly to investigate.

Officials emphasized that, although no credible threats were found, the spread of unverified information on social media can be harmful.

The Ansonia Police Department and the Ansonia Public Schools, along with Superintendent Dr. Joseph DiBacco, reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining a safe environment for students, staff, and the community.

The department also encouraged the public to continue reporting any threats or violence but urged caution when sharing such information on social media, especially during active investigations.
