Suspect arrested in Boston laptop theft

BOSTON — Police arrested a Chelsea man Wednesday in connection with a daytime break-in and theft of a laptop and other items from a South End apartment.

Tyrone Saunders, 60, was taken into custody around 12:22 p.m. in Downtown Crossing after officers tracked the stolen laptop using the victim’s find-my-device app, according to the Boston Police Department.

Officers responded to a reported break-in at 57 Chandler St. and found a broken front door lock and items scattered throughout the apartment.

The victim told police his laptop was pinging in the Downtown Crossing area.

Police located Saunders near 1 Franklin St. carrying a suitcase containing the stolen laptop, jewelry and about $140 in cash.

Officers also found cocaine in his possession.

Saunders faces charges including breaking and entering, receiving stolen property over $1,200, and possession of a Class B substance.

He also had two active warrants, police said.

The stolen items were returned to the victim.

Saunders is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
