Putnam police investigate string of auto burglaries

PUTNAM — Putnam police are investigating a series of auto burglaries that occurred overnight Tuesday into Wednesday in residential areas.

The burglaries targeted unlocked vehicles on Sabin Street and Woodstock Avenue, according to a statement from the Putnam Police Department.

No forced entry was reported in any of the incidents.

Chief Chris Ferace emphasized the importance of preventive measures. “These were crimes of opportunity, and I cannot stress enough, if you take away the opportunity by locking your vehicles and removing your keys and other valuables, you minimize the chance of being victimized,” he said.

Police are urging residents to lock their vehicles, remove keys and valuables from view, or bring them inside their homes.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the affected neighborhoods or has relevant video footage to contact the Putnam Police Department at 860-928-6565.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the department’s tip line at 860-963-0000 or through their website at www.putnampolice.com.
