DUXBURY — A drug investigation led to the arrest of a fugitive who had been evading police for several years, Duxbury Police said Tuesday.

Michael Francis, 39, of Lewiston, Maine, was taken into custody Sept. 4 after detectives observed him exiting a building on Mile Brook Road.

Francis had active warrants from Brockton District and Plymouth Superior Court, including drug trafficking charges.

Police found 5 grams of suspected fentanyl in Francis’ pockets upon arrest.

He was brought to Plymouth District Court to face his outstanding warrants and a new charge of possession of a Class A substance.

Duxbury Police detectives began investigating suspected illegal narcotic activity in the area on Sept. 3.

During the probe, they developed information that Francis was staying nearby.

Francis had failed to report to his probation officer, leading to the active warrants, police said.

Chief Michael Carbone said the arrest was made without incident after detectives and patrol officers set up surveillance.
