CARIBOU — A male juvenile was taken into custody by the Caribou Police Department on Sept. 3 after being found with stolen goods and burglarizing vehicles.
At around 3:21 p.m., a Department of Human Services employee reported a suspicious male with a ski mask rummaging through vehicles at Skyway Plaza.
The suspect was described as wearing skinny jeans, a black logo’d t-shirt, a baseball cap, and carrying a backpack.
Sgt. Keith Ouellette located a juvenile on Bennett Drive matching the description provided by the caller.
Upon questioning, the young male admitted to being in the area and consented to a search of his backpack.
The search uncovered a white ski mask and an unopened bottle of liquor.
The juvenile, familiar to the police from prior incidents, was charged with theft by unauthorized taking, burglary of a motor vehicle, and possession of liquor by a minor.
He was released to his parent’s custody pending further action by the Juvenile Community Corrections Officer.
Sgt. Ouellette and Officer St. Peter, through surveillance footage from a nearby grocery store, confirmed the bottle of liquor had been stolen.
The Caribou Police Department urges residents to lock their vehicle doors and remove keys from ATVs and motorcycles, recommending they be parked near outdoor cameras if possible.
This advisory comes in response to a recent increase in similar thefts.
Despite several vehicle recoveries and multiple charges pressed, police emphasize that prevention and community tips are vital to effective community policing.
