BOSTON — Members of the Boston Police Department’s Citywide Drug Control Unit, in collaboration with the Youth Violence Strike Force and District C-11 officers, arrested a 53-year-old Boston man on multiple drug charges Tuesday afternoon in Dorchester.

At about 2:38 p.m., officers were conducting an ongoing drug investigation near Uphams Corner when they observed Santo Carvajal, the operator of a suspected vehicle, engaging in what appeared to be street-level drug transactions.

Surveillance led officers to Jerome Street and Cushing Avenue, where Carvajal was seen handing a small plastic bag, believed to contain crack cocaine, to a female individual.

After the exchange, the woman was stopped by officers at 505 Columbia Road, where she was found in possession of crack cocaine and fentanyl.

She was informed that she would be summoned to court.

Maintaining surveillance on Carvajal, officers witnessed him return to his vehicle.

When approached by police, Carvajal attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended following a brief chase.

A search along his attempted escape route uncovered additional quantities of crack cocaine and fentanyl.

Further investigation of Carvajal’s vehicle resulted in the seizure of larger bags of the same substances and $371 in cash.

Carvajal now faces charges including Possession with Intent to Distribute Class A, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, Distribution of Class A, and Distribution of Class B drugs.

He is scheduled for arraignment at Dorchester District Court.
