NEWPORT — The Vermont Land Trust (VLT) has announced the opening of the lottery for the 2024 archery deer hunting season at Bluffside Farm. Interested hunters have until September 20 to submit their applications.
The hunting season will be divided into three periods: October 8 to November 15, November 16 to December 1, and December 2 to December 15. As in previous years, only archery hunting will be permitted, in compliance with Newport City ordinances that prohibit firearms.
Bluffside Farm, located at 171 Scott Farm Road, has become a popular recreational area since VLT purchased it in 2015. The property will remain open to pedestrians during the hunting season, with hunters required to carry written permission and confine their activities to designated areas away from neighboring houses.
In addition to hunting, the farm offers various recreational opportunities including walking, skiing, outdoor education, and community gardening. A multi-use recreation path, opened in 2021, complements the existing trail network.
Those interested in participating in the hunting lottery can find more information and the application at vlt.org/hunt. Questions can be directed to (802) 745-6303.
