Waterbury man arrested on drug, gun charges

WATERBURY — A 21-year-old Waterbury man was arrested Tuesday on drug and gun charges following a narcotics investigation by local and state police.

Malik Wright was found in possession of a loaded Glock handgun with an extended high-capacity magazine, 7.1 grams of crack cocaine and 13 bags of heroin, according to the Waterbury Police Department.

The arrest occurred near High Street and Coe Street on Aug. 29, 2024, during an operation conducted by the Waterbury Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Divisions and the Connecticut State Police Violent Crimes Task Force.

Wright, a convicted felon with previous narcotics and firearm convictions, is prohibited from legally possessing firearms or ammunition.

He is currently in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections on a $150,000 bond.

The Waterbury Police Department said the arrest is part of their ongoing efforts to combat illegal drugs and firearms in the community.
