SPRINGFIELD — Police arrested two individuals and seized a large-capacity firearm, cocaine and ecstasy during a late-night operation targeting trespassing in a Main Street parking lot.
Members of the Springfield Police C3 Unit, led by Capt. Julio Toledo, made the arrests at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday as part of ongoing efforts to deter illegal street racing and car meetups in business parking lots after hours.
Officers approached a vehicle in a lot on the 1900 block of Main Street, arresting the driver, Josean Menendez, 36, of Ludlow, and his passenger, a 15-year-old girl.
A search of the vehicle yielded a large, extended firearm magazine loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition and capable of holding 30 rounds.
Police also recovered a firearm, additional ammunition, ecstasy and cocaine.
Menendez faces multiple charges, including:
– Carrying a firearm without a license
– Possession of a large-capacity firearm during the commission of a felony
– Firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes
– Possession of ammunition without an FID card
– Convicted felon in possession of a firearm
– Possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device
– Possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug (ecstasy)
– Possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug (cocaine) – subsequent offense
– Trespassing
– Procuring liquor for a person under 21
The C3 Unit has been working with local businesses to address trespassing issues, resulting in the posting of “No Trespassing” signs in the area.
