MEXICO — A 9-month-old infant was hospitalized for a drug overdose and a 28-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges following an incident Monday in western Maine.

Oxford County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Roxbury Road in Mexico at 11:23 a.m. Sept. 4 after reports of an unresponsive infant.

The child was experiencing agonal breathing and turning blue, authorities said.

The infant was rushed to Rumford Hospital, where toxicology reports confirmed the presence of cocaine and marijuana.

The child was also suffering from an opioid overdose and responded to multiple doses of naloxone, according to the sheriff’s office.

The infant was later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland for further treatment.

During the investigation, authorities seized approximately 60 grams of cocaine from the Roxbury Road residence.

Timothy Child, 28, of Dixfield, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful trafficking of a Schedule W drug, and violating conditions of release.

At the time of his arrest, Child was already on three separate sets of bail conditions.

Investigators executed a second search warrant at a residence on Pine Street in Dixfield as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Rumford Police Department, and Med-Care Ambulance Service responded to the initial call.
