LEWISTON — A routine traffic stop early Tuesday led to the arrest of a convicted felon on multiple drug and weapon charges, police said.
Devin Charest, 33, was taken into custody around 2 a.m. after officers discovered illegal drugs and a firearm during a search of the vehicle in which he was a passenger, according to the Lewiston Police Department.
Police said they found substantial quantities of crack cocaine, methamphetamine and suspected fentanyl, along with a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun.
Charest, who has an extensive criminal record, was charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, being a felon in possession of a firearm and violating conditions of release.
The traffic stop occurred on Blake Street.
Police did not provide details about the driver or why the vehicle was initially pulled over.
