Boston police recover firearm during traffic stop, arrest suspect

BOSTON — Boston police arrested a 28-year-old Hyde Park man on firearm charges following a traffic stop in Dorchester on Monday night.

At 8:12 p.m., members of the Youth Violence Strike Force pulled over a vehicle with an expired registration sticker near 131 Washington St. During the stop, officers recovered a loaded Walther PK380 handgun from inside the vehicle.

Shawn Watt was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm subsequent offense, unlawful possession of ammunition subsequent offense, operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration, and an inspection sticker violation.

Police said the recovered firearm had one round in the chamber, six rounds in the magazine, and was equipped with a laser sight attachment.

Watt is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

The incident occurred as officers were patrolling the area of Columbia Road and Washington Street.
