BOSTON — A routine traffic stop in Dorchester early Monday morning resulted in the arrest of a Hyde Park man for firearm, drug, and motor vehicle offenses.
Boston Police officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) conducted the stop at 287 Washington St. around 1 a.m. after noticing a vehicle with an expired registration.
The driver, identified as 37-year-old Lorenzo Beechman, was removed from the vehicle due to safety concerns.
During the investigation, officers discovered a firearm under the passenger seat and a small bag containing what is believed to be crack cocaine.
Beechman tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by the officers.
Detectives identified the weapon as a loaded Smith & Wesson Shield 9EZ 9MM, with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine.
Beechman faces charges including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a Class B substance, resisting arrest, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
