BOSTON — A Roxbury man was arrested Saturday morning on assault and battery charges after a stabbing incident led to a pursuit through Boston streets, authorities said.

At about 8:36 a.m., officers from Districts C-11 (Dorchester) and District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to reports of a person stabbed near Columbia Road and Stoughton Street.

Upon arrival, they found an adult male victim with a stab wound.

Boston EMS treated the victim and transported him to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The victim identified Kelvin Ortiz, 30, as the assailant, who was seen fleeing the scene on a bicycle near Columbia Road and Dudley Street.

Officers pursued Ortiz, broadcasting his description to aid the manhunt.

The search led them to Gene Street, where Ortiz abandoned the bicycle and jumped a fence.

Residents on Humphreys Street alerted officers that Ortiz had broken into their basement.

As he tried to escape, police apprehended him on Wendover Street.

Ortiz now faces charges of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Breaking and Entering Daytime for Felony, and Trespassing.

He is set to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
