SANDGATE — A 46-year-old Bennington man was charged with home improvement fraud after failing to complete a project and refusing to refund the money paid by a Sandgate resident.

Vermont State Police reported that Donald Crowley was issued a criminal citation on Aug. 31 to appear in Bennington Superior Court on Oct. 21 at 8:15 a.m. to answer to the charges brought against him.

The investigation began on June 18 when George Dyke, 74, of Sandgate, approached the police alleging that Crowley had not finished a home improvement job for which he was paid.

Despite Dyke’s requests for a refund, Crowley did not return the payment.

Troopers from the Shaftsbury Barracks conducted the investigation that led to Crowley’s citation.
