Teen killed, others injured in SUV-boat trailer crash in South Yarmouth

SOUTH YARMOUTH — A 14-year-old boy was killed and two others were injured when an SUV struck a boat trailer on the roadside Friday afternoon, police said.

The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on North Main Street, just south of the Great Western Road intersection, according to the Yarmouth Police Department.

A truck towing a boat trailer had pulled to the side of the road due to a broken axle.

Passengers had exited the vehicle to attempt repairs when a southbound Cadillac SUV struck the boat trailer from behind, causing it to hit the people working on the damaged axle, police said.

The 14-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other individuals were transported to Cape Cod Hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

The driver of the Cadillac remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.

The Yarmouth Police Department and the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the incident.
