Man arrested for attempted homicide in St. Albans stabbing

ST. ALBANS — A 63-year-old St. Albans man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a stabbing that left one person hospitalized.

Richard Ploof was taken into custody without incident around 4:25 p.m. Aug. 29 after police executed a search warrant at a Lower Welden Street apartment.

He faces charges of attempted homicide and violation of probation.

The St. Albans Police Department received a report at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday that a man with a knife wound to the back had been dropped off at the Northwestern Medical Center emergency room.

Officers interviewed the adult male victim, who was later transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center for additional treatment.

Investigation revealed that a man known as “DICKY” had stabbed the victim.

Police identified the suspect as Ploof, who has previous convictions including assault with a deadly weapon in 2018 and murder involving a knife in 1991.

Ploof is being held without bail at the Northwest State Correctional Facility.
