PORTLAND — A fugitive wanted on multiple firearms charges was arrested Monday after a rooftop chase in Auburn, authorities said.
Matthew Gallagher, 34, of Lewiston, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Maine Violent Offender Task Force on Aug. 28.
Gallagher was wanted on warrants from Androscoggin County for theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and criminal threatening with a firearm.
He also had a warrant from the Maine Department of Corrections for violating probation.
Task force members, along with Lewiston and Auburn police, tracked Gallagher to an apartment on Main Street in Auburn.
As authorities searched the residence, Gallagher fled to the roof and jumped to an adjacent building.
After being surrounded, Gallagher surrendered and came down from the roof without incident, officials said.
He was booked into the local county jail on the outstanding warrants.
