Driver arrested for DUI, clocked doing 102 mph in Milton

MILTON — Vermont State Police arrested a 22-year-old St. Albans man on suspicion of driving under the influence and negligent operation after he was allegedly caught speeding at 102 mph on Interstate 89.

Troopers stopped Evan Charbonneau at approximately 7:46 p.m. on Aug. 29, 2024, near mile marker 100.8 in Milton.

The speed limit in the area is 65 mph.

During the traffic stop, officers detected signs of impairment and discovered Charbonneau was operating the vehicle with a civilly suspended license.

Charbonneau was taken to the Williston Barracks for processing and later released with a citation to appear at the Chittenden County Superior Court on Sept. 19 at 8:15 a.m.

In addition to the DUI and negligent operation charges, Charbonneau received two Vermont Civil Violation Complaints: one for interstate speeding with a $558 waiver and two points, and another for operating with a civilly suspended license with a $249 waiver and zero points.

One additional passenger was in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
