SPRINGFIELD — On Aug. 23 at approximately 6:30 p.m., Springfield Police Officers confiscated a dirt bike while conducting an Anti-Off-Highway-Vehicle (OHV)/Dirt Bike public safety operation, aimed at curtailing illegal street riding that endangers the community.
The Springfield Police Department has been addressing ongoing complaints about illicit dirt bike and OHV riding on city streets, which pose risks to both the riders and the public.
On the evening of the operation, officers spotted an adult male dirt bike rider near the intersection of Hancock and Central Streets engaging in such activities.
After keeping the individual under mobile surveillance, police executed a traffic stop when the rider dismounted on Middle Street.
The male suspect was subsequently charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle and with violating snow/recreation vehicle laws on a public way.
He is to be issued a criminal summons.
The seized dirt bike is now in police custody.
