Springfield police arrest shooting suspects, seize illegal firearm

SPRINGFIELD — Two suspects were arrested early Saturday morning in connection with a shooting that resulted in a shattered kitchen window in Springfield.

Springfield Police Officers responded to a report of shots fired on the 0-100 block of Oswego Street around 3:45 a.m. After receiving further information, police located 19-year-old Abdiel Urena and a 17-year-old male on the 400 block of Main Street at approximately 4:35 a.m.

During the arrest, officers seized a loaded large-capacity firearm from Urena’s jacket pocket.

Urena, a Springfield resident, faces multiple charges including discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device, assault with a dangerous weapon, defacing property, and possession of a Class C drug.

The 17-year-old male was also taken into custody, but due to his age, authorities are withholding his name, photograph, and specific charges.

Both suspects are currently being held as the investigation continues.
