SEARSBURG — A single-vehicle crash on Vermont Route 9 near the intersection with Vermont Route 8 left an Arizona man with minor injuries early Tuesday morning.

Russell Follansbee, 71, of Tucson, Arizona, was driving a 2016 Nissan Altima eastbound when he failed to navigate a slight left-hand curve and veered into the embankment.

The vehicle struck a large boulder and rolled onto its driver’s side.

Dense fog in the area was identified as a contributing factor to the accident, according to the Vermont State Police.

Follansbee was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by members of the Wilmington Fire Department.

He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, which likely prevented more serious injuries.

Follansbee did not require hospitalization.

The Altima was totaled in the incident, which occurred around 3:56 a.m. The road conditions were dry at the time.

Assistance at the scene was also provided by the Deerfield Valley Rescue Squad and Hampshire Towing.

The Vermont State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
