Boston man arrested for shoplifting, found with firearm and drugs

BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a man on firearm and drug charges after responding to a shoplifting incident in South Boston on Tuesday morning.

At about 10:30 a.m., police were called to 5 Allstate Road where a shoplifter, later identified as David Rattay, 33, of Dorchester, was detained by store security.

According to the Boston Police Operations, Rattay was found to be in possession of a firearm.

The store constable reported observing Rattay shoplifting items before apprehending him.

While handcuffing Rattay, the constable discovered an unloaded Black Diamondback firearm in Rattay’s right pant pocket.

A subsequent search by the officers also led to the recovery of twelve pills identified as gabapentin.

Rattay was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Class E substance, and Shoplifting by Concealing Merchandise.

He was also found to have two active warrants.

Rattay is set to be arraigned at the South Boston District Court.
