DERBY — The third annual Lat 45 – 5K run/walk event is set for Saturday, Sept. 14, at 8 a.m. to raise funds for North Country Hospital’s mammography technology.

The event, which follows the 45th latitude line, starts at the intersection of Eagle Point and North Derby Road. The flat 3.2-mile course heads west toward Lake Memphremagog and the Wildlife Preserve before returning.

Registration is free, with donations going toward the hospital’s goal of purchasing new mammography equipment. The first 50 registrants will receive a free T-shirt.

Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate. The event will take place rain or shine.

Organizers note the unique aspect of running along the 45th parallel, which is equidistant from the equator and the North Pole.
