OGUNQUIT — A commercial van rollover on the Maine Turnpike scattered construction debris across the highway Monday morning, injuring four people, Maine State Police said.

Troopers responded to the crash near mile marker 14 at approximately 8:12 a.m. after a white commercial van, driven by 39-year-old Victor Miguel Cedillo Merchan of Brockton, Massachusetts, lost control on the wet pavement and rolled over into the median.

The van was traveling northbound when the incident occurred.

Debris from the van, including roofing nails, construction equipment, and power tools, was thrown into the southbound lanes, striking a white Honda.

The collision with the debris disabled the Honda, deployed airbags, and caused minor injuries to the female driver.

Cedillo Merchan was not injured in the crash.

However, there were four male passengers in the van, three of whom were not wearing seatbelts.

They were transported to Portsmouth Hospital in New Hampshire with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities believe that speed and erratic operation were factors in the crash.
