WESTMINSTER — Vermont State Police arrested a 35-year-old Townshend man after he allegedly pointed a handgun at a woman in Newfane.

Authorities say they received a 911 call at about 9:46 p.m. on Aug. 26 from Wendy Knight, 43, also of Townshend.

Knight reported that an unidentified male had approached her vehicle on VT Route 30 and pointed a handgun at her.

Following the incident, Knight provided a description of the man and his vehicle, which led to the identification of Matthew Poplawski as the suspect.

Police located Poplawski at a residence close to the scene and arrested him without further incident.

Poplawski was taken to the Westminster Barracks for processing.

He was then lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility on $1,000 bail.

Poplawski is scheduled to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on Aug. 27 at 12:30 p.m. to face charges related to the confrontation.
