Scarborough police arrest suspect in multi-city burglary spree

SCARBOROUGH — A man suspected of a series of early morning commercial burglaries was arrested Monday after a coordinated effort between local police departments.

Scarborough Police responded to reports of forced-entry burglaries at two businesses on Aug. 26.

Investigators gathered evidence at the crime scenes leading to a suspect, identified as 52-year-old David Allan of Sanford.

Allan was apprehended after officers found him operating a stolen vehicle, reported missing from Sanford the previous evening.

The vehicle was located in South Portland at about 8:50 a.m. with assistance from the South Portland Police Department, and Allan was taken into custody without incident.

Further investigation revealed that Allan was also responsible for burglaries in Biddeford and Portland earlier that day.

He was transported to Cumberland County Jail and faces multiple charges, including two counts of burglary (Class B), two counts of theft (Class C), two counts of criminal mischief (Class D), unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (Class C), operating without a license (Class E), unlawful possession of fentanyl (Class C), possession of burglar tools (Class E), and three outstanding warrants.
