Police arrest man after attempted robbery at Portland post office

PORTLAND — A man was arrested Monday evening after an attempted robbery at the Forest Avenue Post Office, authorities said.

Portland Police received a call at 6:32 p.m. regarding a robbery at the post office located at 125 Forest Avenue.

A 32-year-old male suspect allegedly approached the counter, demanding the clerk open the register and threatening to shoot.

The clerk refused, and the suspect left the premises issuing further threats.

The man, later identified as Jacobie Jefferson, was found in Deering Oaks Park shortly after the incident and was taken into custody.

Jefferson, who is unhoused, faces charges of robbery, criminal threatening, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, indecent conduct, and violating conditions of release.

He also had an outstanding warrant.

Jefferson is currently being held at Cumberland County Jail.
