BOSTON — Boston Police Department’s Hyde Park Drug Control Unit arrested two men and recovered a firearm during a drug investigation on Cummins Highway, authorities said Tuesday.

At around 7:06 p.m. on Monday, officers from District E-18 in Hyde Park apprehended Messiah Scott, 25, of Braintree, and Vanderley Bonneau, 23, of Brockton, on charges including firearm and drug offenses.

While monitoring an ongoing drug probe at 885 Cummins Highway, officers spotted a suspect entering a vehicle in the parking lot, which led them to believe a drug transaction had taken place.

They stopped the individual as he left the vehicle and witnessed him swallow an unidentified item.

The suspect, found with drug paraphernalia but declining medical care, was later released.

Upon noticing the vehicle’s missing front license plate, officers called for backup to perform a traffic stop.

After the vehicle returned to the parking lot, officers engaged with the occupants, who were asked to get out of the vehicle.

A search revealed a Springfield Armory XDS handgun with an attached flashlight and an obliterated serial number, one round in the chamber, and seven rounds in the magazine.

Additionally, a search of the passenger led to the discovery of fifty fentanyl pills, $1,866 in cash, nine bank cards with different names, a printer, and black check printing paper.

Scott and Bonneau face charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Defacement of a Firearm Serial Number.

Scott received additional charges for Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class A drugs.

The suspects are scheduled for arraignment at Dorchester District Court.
