NORTH ADAMS — A routine traffic stop by North Adams Police Department’s Detective Unit on Thursday led to a high-stakes drug bust when a vehicle failed to pull over for a traffic infraction.

The incident occurred on Aug. 22, when detectives signaled a motor vehicle to stop for a violation.

The driver did not comply immediately, continuing for a short distance before coming to a halt.

Police discovered that the driver’s license was suspended and placed him under arrest.

Further investigation at the scene gave rise to probable cause to search the vehicle, leading to the seizure of 36.6 grams of cocaine/crack cocaine, digital scales, and packaging materials suggestive of drug distribution.

Officers also confiscated $2,088 in U.S. currency.

Both the male operator and a female passenger were arrested in connection with the find.

The male is being held on $25,000 cash bail, while the female’s bail is set at $100,000.

They face multiple charges, including failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to stop for police, operating a vehicle after license suspension, trafficking cocaine, and conspiracy, as per the Massachusetts General Laws cited in the charges.
