Putney teen faces multiple charges after high-speed chase, assaulting officer

PUTNEY — An 18-year-old from Brattleboro is facing a slew of charges including aggravated assault on law enforcement following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash late Saturday night.

Sander Scott was arrested after a Vermont State Police trooper attempted to pull him over for excessive speed through downtown Putney around 10:26 p.m.

Upon contact, the trooper detected signs of alcohol impairment and instructed Scott to remove his vehicle’s keys.

Defying orders, Scott attempted to flee, leading to a physical altercation with the officer.

After managing to drive away, Scott soon crashed his vehicle and was subsequently found in a nearby river.

He was released on a citation to appear in the Windham Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court on Aug. 26 at 12:30 p.m. to respond to charges of aggravated assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest, excessive speed, gross negligent operation, DUI, reckless endangerment, and attempting to elude a police officer.

Scott is also subject to Conditions of Release pending his court appearance.
