Boston police seize nine guns, arrest multiple suspects over firearm charges

BOSTON — Boston Police Officers recovered nine loaded firearms and made several arrests in connection with firearm offenses on Saturday, August 24.

The arrests began early in the morning when at about 2:11 a.m., the Youth Violence Strike Force apprehended a 15-year-old juvenile male on firearm charges.

The suspect attempted to evade police near Washington Street and Talbot Avenue but was found hiding under a vehicle after discarding a backpack with a P80 Ghost gun.

Later in the morning, at approximately 11:15 a.m., during the Caribbean Festival, Edgard Matos, 18, of Hyde Park, and Breaja Nichols, 23, of Brighton, were arrested after Nichols was found in possession of a firearm and Matos was caught following a pursuit.

Nichols also faced charges for possession with intent to distribute Class B drugs.

In the early afternoon, at about 12:57 p.m., three juveniles were arrested in Mattapan after officers found them with a stolen Ruger 38 Special Snub Nose Revolver and a Glock 22.

The arrests continued at the Caribbean Festival, where at about 2:40 p.m., Avery Coke, 25, of Canton, was apprehended after resisting arrest.

He was found with a Glock 19 equipped to fire automatically.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Dayshawn Grant, 34, of Roxbury, was arrested for multiple firearm offenses, including unlawful possession of a firearm fourth offense and habitual criminal penalty enhancement, after officers discovered a Ruger EC9s in his pocket.

Noah Hearns, 22, of Randolph, was taken into custody at about 5:40 p.m. when he attempted to conceal a Glock 19 in his waistband.

Another juvenile male, 16, was arrested at around 6:45 p.m. after officers spotted an outline of a firearm in his satchel.

The Ruger Security-9 recovered had an obliterated serial number.

Finally, at about 7:15 p.m., Danyael Torres, 23, of Dorchester, was arrested on firearm charges following an altercation during a traffic stop on Warren Street.

All suspects are expected to be arraigned in their respective courts, with the juveniles appearing in Dorchester Juvenile Court and the adults in Dorchester or Roxbury District Court.

Throughout the incidents, no officers or suspects sustained injuries.
