BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a Dorchester man on firearm charges after an incident during a traffic stop in Roxbury on Saturday evening.
At about 7:15 p.m., officers assigned to District B-2 were conducting a traffic stop near 518 Warren Street when one of them was splashed with an unknown liquid by a passing vehicle.
The officers ended the traffic stop to pursue the suspected vehicle and were able to locate and stop it.
The front seat passenger, identified as Danyael Torres, 23, admitted to the officers he intended to scare them.
When requested for identification, Torres leaned forward in his seat, prompting officers to demand that he sit back to keep his hands visible.
Upon further investigation, officers asked Torres to exit the vehicle, which he refused.
After opening the car door and attempting to remove Torres, they noticed him leaning forward again.
A pat frisk revealed a Taurus PT111 Millennium handgun with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine concealed in his waistband.
A squirt gun was also found inside the vehicle.
The other occupants of the car were released at the scene.
Torres faces charges including Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
