Body of missing Bennington man found in Sherman Reservoir

WHITINGHAM — Vermont State Police discovered a body in the Sherman Reservoir on Saturday morning, believed to be that of 59-year-old Matthew Houskeeper, who went missing earlier this month.

Authorities were alerted to an object floating in the water at approximately 9:47 a.m. The body matched Houskeeper’s description, last seen at his residence in Bennington.

Houskeeper had been reported missing since Aug. 14.

The body will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington for an autopsy and formal identification.

The Vermont State Police extended their gratitude to the multiple agencies that contributed to the search efforts, including the Rowe Massachusetts Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police, the Vermont Department of Fish & Wildlife, New England K9 Search and Rescue, and Rescue Inc.
