1 min read

MALDEN — Malden police officers responded to a disturbance call at 260 Eastern Avenue at approximately 9:12 a.m. on May 22, where a woman had run into traffic pleading for passersby to call the authorities.

The initial 911 call came from a witness who observed the woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, pointing towards a man in the Malden Taxi parking lot and urging them to alert the police.

Dispatchers were informed of an altercation involving the man, who was described as wearing a grey shirt, cargo pants, and a backwards Patriots hat, and reportedly holding a knife.

Officer Patrick Kinnon was the first to arrive, finding the woman directing him towards the parking lot at 290 Eastern Avenue.

There, Kinnon encountered Dominique Long, who matched the suspect’s description but was uncooperative and aggressive when questioned.

Officer Amanda Grenier arrived shortly after, drawing her firearm at a low ready position due to reports of the armed suspect.

Officers Cameron Selfridge and Gene Lamure also joined the scene, preparing Taser devices as Long continued to exhibit aggressive behavior.

The situation escalated when Long pulled out a silver kitchen-style knife and charged at Officer Selfridge.

Despite the Taser deployment, Long continued to advance, leading Officer Grenier to fire two rounds, striking Long in the shoulder.

Long was subdued after additional Taser use and was handcuffed with the assistance of Officer Doherty and Sergeant Siegel.

Long received medical attention at the scene and was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

On May 28, while still hospitalized, Long was arraigned on multiple charges, including Armed Robbery and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and was held without bail.

The incident was thoroughly documented through 911 call recordings, police radio communications, and body camera footage from the responding officers.

Interviews with witnesses and the officers involved provided further evidence for the ongoing investigation.

The case is currently pending in the Malden District Court, with Assistant District Attorney Edward Kim handling the prosecution.
