New Bedford man arrested on firearms charges following police investigation

NEW BEDFORD — A local man was arrested Tuesday after New Bedford police found him in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

During an investigation on Aug. 20, officers arrived at 306 N.

Front St., #3S, where they encountered 21-year-old Andres Cosme-Mateo.

A search resulted in the discovery of a 38-caliber revolver, 39 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a 10-round high-capacity magazine, and an additional bag containing a high-capacity magazine with 12 rounds of 9mm ammo.

Cosme-Mateo, who did not have a license for the firearm or ammunition, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license, two counts of possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and improper storage of a gun.

Officer Matthew Costa was named as the arresting officer in the case.
